Pinnacle Signs has been busy the past couple weeks helping KOAA Channel 5 transition to their new logo. We were keeping it quiet, but the cars have been on the road for a while now so I think the secret is out. We put new logos on 13 vehicles so far and refaced the illuminated signs on the building. There are more signs to reface, but we started with the vehicles and large illuminated 5 logo. The cars were simple enough as we were just doing logos on flat or simple curve surfaces. We used 3M IJ180CV3 vinyl which prints very vibrant colors and with the air-egress and Controltac characteristics is really nice to work with on vehicle graphics where the surfaces can change from flat and simple curve to a compound curve. We protected the vinyl prints with 3M 8518 overlaminate to provide a glossy finish to complement the glossy vehicle finish. Using quality 3M products is crucial to getting the vinyl graphics to stick in the recessed channels in the van. We have seen other van wraps where the installer just cut the inside curve. This works to keep the vinyl from bubbling, but leaves a line where the van color shows through. It also creates another seam that can come loose if the seam is not properly sealed. We included a couple of pictures of the recessed channel area to show how the 3M IJ180CV3 vinyl can be installed without cutting the inside curve and still stay in place. It is a challenging technique to master installing the vinyl in these channels and have it turn out right. We certainly struggled like many others the first time we did it.

The large illuminated 5 signs were a bit of a challenge to reface. It took some time to make minor adjustments to the artwork to get the best look and fit of the new design into the old sign face and still have fairly even margins all around. We used Avery translucent vinyl with a good cast laminate for these signs as well. The overall size meant having a couple of our kids helping to get the new vinyl installed! Thank you to Tami at Spectrum Lighting and her bucket truck crews for the assist with removal and reinstall of the wall signs!
